About : The Sabarmati Ashram (also known as Harijan Ashram) built on the banks of river Sabarmati, was home to Mohandas Gandhi from 1917 until 1930 and served as one of the main centres of the Indian freedom struggle. You can get a sense of his life, the history of the movement and those who worked alongside him, at the Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya, a small museum that includes excellent pictorial and written documentation, a library of Gandhian literature and paintings, and an immense archive of letters written by Gandhiji, every single one on the back of used paper.
About : Sidi Bashir, a slave of Sultan Ahmed Shah constructed Sidi Bashir Mosque in 1452 AD. There are two minarets in the mosque, each of which is three stories tall with carved balconies. A gentle shaking of either minaret results in the other minaret vibrating after a few seconds, though the connecting passage between them remains free of vibration. About : The King's Tomb is to the east of the Jama Mosque and is accessed by a connecting doorway. This mausoleum, dating from 1451, houses the tombs of Sultan Ahmed Shah, Ahmed Shah I, his son Muhammed Shah II and grandson Ahmed Shah II. The place’s architecture is in the shape of a square, which has porticos around it and a large central dome. The windows are perforated and the carvings on them are breathtaking. This is where the male members of the royal family were buried. Women are not allowed to enter, and men must wear something to cover their heads before entering. Located close by is the Rani-no-Hajiro which houses the tombs of queens of sultans after Ahmed Shah I. .jpg)
About : Rani no Hajiro was built in the 15 century by the great sultan Ahmed Shah. The ‘hajiro’ is a vault for graves and served as the last resting place for queens of this empire. The burial place or the inner area is kept locked to maintain tranquillity and cleanliness of the place. 
About : The City of Ahmedabad has some of the finest Islamic monuments and exquisite Hindu and Jain temples. The Heritage Walk of Ahmedabad, initiated by the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), encompasses 20 main spots, besides numerous areas and aspects of the old city. 
About : Built in 1423 during the reign of Ahmed Shah I, the founder of Ahmedabad, the city is adorned with the beautiful mosque – the Jama Masjid (the Friday Mosque). The architectural design of the mosque is very unique as it has its entrance from three different directions (gates on the north, east and south sides). In the western direction of the mosque is located the entombments of Sultan Ahmed Shah and his son and grandson, called Badshah no Hajiro (The King's Tomb). The other entombments located in the mosque are of the queen and the wives of the sultans and are called as Rani Ka Hazira (Queen’s Tomb). As you step through the gates, you stand in a refuge of profound serenity, accompanied only by people in quiet prayer, and birds perching on the columns.
About : The Siddi Saiyyed Mosque is one of the most popular mosques in the city of Ahmedabad and was constructed by Sidi Saiyyed in 1573. The mosque comprises of ten windows in the semi circular shape depicting a tree with intertwining branches, the carvings look like fine lace filigree work, but are hewn from solid stone, the windows are referred to as 'Jali'. The craftsmanship of the mosque, the carved jaalis in the windows of the western wall are known worldwide and have become a symbol of the city of Ahmedabad.
About : Built in 1848 A.D., the temple is spread over a sprawling courtyard, a mandapa surmounted by a large ridged dome, which is supported by 12 ornate pillars. There are large protuding porches with magnificently decorated columns and figural brackets on three outer sides. 
About : The Swaminarayan Temple is the first temple of the Swaminarayan Sampraday, a Hindu sect. The temple is carved in Burmese teak, and every arch and bracket is painted with bright colours, a defining characteristic of Swaminarayan temples everywhere. The temple is a splash of color in the midst of the city’s grey and is also the starting point for the Heritage Walk through the pols of the old city.
About : Sarkhej Roza comprises one of the most elegant and unique architectural complexes of Ahmedabad. The architectural style of Sarkhej Roza is a precursor to the Mughal period in a true amalgamation of Hindu, Jain and Islamic styles. Grouped around a great stepped tank is the tomb to the saint, Ahmed Khattu Ganj Baksh (1445), the mosque, the tombs of Mehmud Shah Begada and his queen, and the palace and pavilions. The buildings are remarkable for the complete absence of arches and the use of pierced stone trellises throughout.
About : Akshardham is majestic, intricately carved stone structure which stands amid sprawling gardens set in a 23-acre plot at Gandhinagar. It is built in 6000 tonnes of pink sandstone and not a bit of steel has been used. The monument stands on 7 sculpted pillars, 210 single-piece stone beams, 57 window grills, M domes, eight ornate zarokhas, etc. The monument enshrining the seven foot high, gold-leafed Murti (idol) of Lord Swaminarayan is the focal point of the complex. 
About : Gujarat Science City is an initiative of the Government of Gujarat, for popularization of science to create scientific temper in the community. It showcases contemporary and imaginative exhibits, minds on experiences, working models, virtual reality, activity corners, labs and live demonstrations to provide an understanding of science and technology to the common man. The 3D Imax theater, musical dancing fountain, energy park and simulation rides are major interest points to visitors.
About : Constructed in 15th century by Sultan Qutb-ud-Din, it is a 34 sided polygon lake with a 1.25 km circuit and steps leading down to the water level. About : Built in 1981 within the vicinity of Vishalla Village Restaurant is the VECHAAR (Vishalla Environmental Centre for Heritage of Art, Architecture and Research) Utensils Museum, a brainchild of architect Mr. Surender C. Patel. It is an extensive study of utensils from thousand years old to the present times that have evolved over different periods of history as a result our changing needs and environment. The range varies from leaves or a gourd jug, to modern stainless steel and glass utensils. 
About : This building is known as the Motishahi Mahal, and was built by Shah Jahan in 1622. In the year 1978, the building was transformed into a national memorial dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Now the museum has been further enhanced with the latest technological interventions, for a more interactive experience. The museum showcases artefacts and the belongings of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and also includes two multimedia halls that shed light on various aspects of Sardar’s life and work with interactive and experiential exhibits. The G-Pilots have been given training on tourist places and hence they act like city guide too. G-Link This service links the people traveling on the same route. It is a ride sharing service used by daily commuters such as working executive, school children, etc. The service allows three people to share the same auto within the radius of 1 km and is meant to encourage people to use one single auto instead of three autos by three people separately. (Note: G-Link service is subject to condition of availability of commuters who are willing to share the ride. Single commuter shall pay the regular meter fare plus facility fee.) G-O-City This service may be used if the person plans to go to places (out of city) such as Gandhinagar, Sanand, Kalol, etc, which are out of the municipal corporation area. G-O-City service is 25 % cheaper than regular autos or Govt. notified fare of Rs 13.50 /km and also does not charge return fare. 2. BRTS - Bus Rapid Transit SystemTo provide faster, reliable, eco friendly and advanced Public Transportation, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has incorporated “Special Purpose Vehicle” called Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd in order to operate and run BRTS services for the citizen of Ahmedabad. BRTS follows a standard fare structure calculated for distance (km) from source to the destination, to rupees. The commuter needs to collect ticket from the ticket counter before the commencement of the journey. The ticket is to be shown to the ticket checker while boarding the bus at the destination. 5. Local Auto-rickshaw Services The commonly seen green and yellow coloured auto-rickshaws are an easy catch for transportation while in Ahmedabad. These auto(s) can be hired on the road to your destination. Every auto-rickshaw driver carries a fare calculation card which calculates fare in the manner for meter count (units) to rupees (INR) based on the distance (km) travelled. Uttarayan Celebrations
Celebrated on 14th January every year, the festival of Uttarayan witnesses millions of kite enthusiasts pitch themselves at the rooftops to fly kites. On Uttarayan, Gujarat sees people of all ages flying kites from dawn to dusk. Crowded rooftops, fun-loving rivalry to outdo each other in kite flying skills and delicious traditional Gujarati feast are the hallmarks of the day. The fascination and the revelry associated with the kite flying cuts across age groups, class and communities.
You too can join the festivities! The participants too joined the festivities! Centre for Health, Education, Training and Nutrition Awareness (CHETNA) celebrates the festival of Uttarayan each year. This year, on the afternoon of 14th January (Thursday), the participants also joined in the revelry by booking their place at the CHETNA terrace.
